Sweden: cyberbullying is a growing problem
New research by the University of Gothenburg suggests that cyberbullying is a much more far reaching problem than previously thought.
According to the study around 10 per cent of all adolescents in grades 7-9 in Sweden are victims of Internet bullying. The research concerns body image, identity development and different types of bullying among children and adolescents.
One cyberbullying example is the Facebook group: “Vi som hatar Stina Johansson” (Those of us who hate Stina Johansson) –it took Stina’s parents almost one whole month to remove this group from Facebook.
According to the research there is a clear connection to school life – cyberbullying usually declines in the summer and the cyber bully is almost always from the same school as the victim.
