October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month in the U.S.
The 6th annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month is a joint effort of the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a wide variety of public, private and non-governmental organizations as well as companies, schools, and nonprofit organizations around the Unites States.
In light of recent findings that just 40% of Americans have had any formal type of online security or safety training, the National Cyber Security Month focuses on online safety and security awareness and education for U.S. citizens and businesses.
A series of events are planned for October including:
- C-SAVE Volunteer Program - The Cyber Security Awareness Volunteer Education (C-SAVE) program continues - volunteers across the country educate thousands of K-12 students about online safety and security.
- Web videos on cyber security - produced specifically for 17-25 year olds, and distributed by means of social networking and Websites.
- Lesson plans for grades 7-12 on cyber security for teachers across the country
- StaySafeOnline.org -- A user-friendly Web site focused on educating Americans.
