UK: Nationwide training program to teach parents how to help youngsters to use the internet safely
Newcastle University’s Centre for Cybercrime and Computer Security has developed a training program to help parents protect their children against cybercrime.
The program is aimed at raising awareness to the dangers of unsupervised internet use and empowering parents to help their children use the internet safely so they can enjoy all the benefits it has to offer without being put at risk.
The course covers the following topics:
- The differences in the way adults and young people use the internet
- Cyber bullying
- Internet grooming
- How parents can make the internet safer for children, for example: monitoring visited websites, time-out settings to prevent children from using the web late at night and a guide to the dangers of using social networking sites.
