Why Videos?

Cyberbullying, sexting, and online harassment are serious issues, and their consequences to young people can be devastating. They may, in extreme cases, lead to suicide, even when the originator’s original intent was not to harm. Sadly, such cases have been documented. Read about them here.

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. And a video clip can often make an impression much deeper than a long, learned essay. Particularly when the audience is young people who live in a world of short, instant messages.

We have collected some of these videos that are available on line for you to look at. You may want to forward some of them to your children or you may want to watch them together with them, as a prelude to an open dialog with your kids.

The videos in this section are displayed according to topic: cyberbullying, sexting, etc. In addition to these sections you are also invited to check out the Connect Safely You Tube video channel. ConnectSafely.org is for parents, teens, educators, advocates - everyone engaged in and interested in the impact of the social Web. On their YouTube channel you can find a series of videos about Web safety including: Online Safety 3.0: Rethinking Net Safety, What you post can haunt you forever, and a pseudo-humorous video series about “the Webs” - a family including Kate – a teen and her encounter with various online safety issues.
